Obie didn’t discover canvas until 2000, and when he did he loved the texture and boldness it allowed. He now uses canvas exclusively except for commissions that are requested on paper. His canvas’s are becoming larger as he grows more confident in his work and he has almost gone full circle, back to the large sizes he produced in the 1970’s (early days) on masonite and metal sheeting when he drew stick men over textured and marbled acrylic paint. He is becoming more proficient with the use of a fine paint brush and so his figures, particularly his women, are becoming more elegant as time goes on. Obie loves the texture of rocks and these have given him inspiration throughout his artistic career, it is interesting to see that Obie continues to use many of his old ideas including rocks and cliffs with his new found techniques and abilities.
